Mary Elizabeth A. Davis

Mary Elizabeth Davis has served in public education in Georgia for nearly 20 years across four school districts in a variety of leadership roles. She currently serves as Superintendent of Cherokee County School District, leading a system that serves approximately 40,000 students.

Prior to joining Cherokee County, Mary Elizabeth served as Superintendent of Henry County Schools for nearly seven years. Throughout her tenure as a superintendent, she has been recognized for strengthening operational systems, achieving financial efficiencies, and improving student performance outcomes across schools and districts.

Before joining the Henry County community, Mary Elizabeth served as Chief Academic Officer for the Cobb County School District and as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in Gwinnett County. She began her career as a chemistry teacher in Fairfax County, Virginia, where she also coached girls’ basketball and field hockey.

In 2024, Mary Elizabeth was named to the District Administration’s inaugural list of the 100 Most Influential Education Leaders in the United States. She also was a finalist for Georgia’s Superintendent of the Year.

A native of New Jersey, Mary Elizabeth, earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Messiah College in Pennsylvania, where she also played field hockey and softball. After moving to Georgia, she completed all of her graduate studies at Georgia State University, culminating in a Ph.D. in Education Policy.

Mary Elizabeth resides in Canton, Georgia, with her husband of 24 years and their two children.
