Amanda is a superstar in her field. Not only does Amanda have extensive content knowledge, she is a teacher that creates authentic learning experiences for her students each day. Amanda knows that engagement and motivation is extremely important in teaching high school students. She creates a classroom environment that fosters collaboration, communication and problem solving. Amanda leverages technology in a way that has students become producers instead of consumers. Students are challenged with real world problems and 21st century skills in order to be successful in her course. Amanda also inspires her colleagues by her willingness to go above and beyond for the students.

Amanda started a Podcasting competition, Speak Up Whitfield. After year 3, the program has incorporated schools from neighboring systems, boasting 148 podcasts submitted this year alone. In addition, Amanda has started a non-profit, National Podcast Project, in which the mission is to intern high schoolers to produce high quality podcasts and other audio archiving services for businesses and organizations. All of this is an example of Amanda’s passion for education and technology.
